Kauai Humane Society's goal is to find loving, forever homes for the over 5,000 dogs they receive a year.
One of the ways they accomplish this is with a program they created called Aloha Escorts.
The Kauai Humane Society has partnered with Alaska Airlines in a program that allows them to fly dogs to mainland guarantee-adoption shelters that they have partnered with in Washington, Oregon and California. Alaska Airlines flies them for free as long as they are with a passenger that has volunteered to escort the animal with them on their trip back home. This has been a very successful program that has allowed them to transport 448 animals to mainland shelters this year. All these dogs have been adopted into loving homes!

If you aren't going to Kauai anytime soon, consider making a donation. The Kauai Humane Society incurs cost to get the animal to their destination. Every animal that flies has to be placed in an airline approved crate which costs $75-$230 per crate. Every animal that is transferred obtains vaccines, spay or neuter, health exams, flea and worming medication and of course incurred labor costs to do perform these services for the animal.
As a non-profit they function and rely on wonderful and caring people like you to fund this program. The funds they raise will allow them to continue the program and take the program to new heights by getting more animals to shelters that are actively seeking dogs to adopt out.
