About Issaquah
Issaquah, Washington is a scenic community of 33,000 residents nestled 17 miles to the East of Seattle and 37 miles to the West of Snoqualmie Pass. Issaquah features extraordinary year-around recreational opportunities in a world class outdoor environment in addition to rich historical and cultural activities.
Issaquah offers a great deal of opportunities for outdoor fitness experiences. The town is surrounded by the Issaquah Alps: Squak Mountain, Cougar Mountain and Tiger Mountain. Each mountain features an abundance of trails for wilderness hiking or trail running. For those preferring an urban paved hike, run or bike ride, the relatively new East Lake Sammamish Trail that occupies an old railroad corridor follows the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish, from Issaquah North to Redmond. Tiger Mountain is a mecca for the paragliding enthusiast. Lake Sammamish offers the water-lover opportunities for kayaking, water-skiing, sailboarding, fishing, jet skiing and swimming. The area also offers abundant mountain biking and is a popular area for road biking. For winter sport enthusiasts, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and downhill skiing is only a 45 minute drive.
There are also many arts and cultural and historical activities to be found in the town of Issaquah itself. Historic downtown is the center for experiences with the award-winning Village Theater for performing arts and numerous galleries featuring the original works of local and regional artists and schools for visual art, music and theater. In the 1800’s the local economy was fueled by the coal, lumber, hop growing, and dairy industries. The Gilman Town Hall Museum and the Historic Railroad Depot Museum educate the public about the rich history of Issaquah. Gilman Village provides boutique shopping and dining in the charming historic buildings.
