How to Prepare a Pork Sirloin Tip Roast

Published:  11/22/2016

Pork sirloin tip roasts are very easy to prepare and this lean cut of pork has less fat than a chicken breast, providing all the excess fat is trimmed off.

Crockpot Method

The crockpot is my favorite method. Using a moist cooking method will produce a moist, tender, roast that falls apart. The meat is so versatile and can be used as-is as an entrée, on a taco-style salad, in a grain bowl such as this one, with BBQ sauce added for a BBQ pork sandwich...you get the idea!

This is a simple and basic recipe to start with. Feel free to make ingredient additions. Using this method I also like to make this Green Chile Pork Recipe.

1. Place boneless pork sirloin tip roast in slow cooker. First line the slow cooker with a slow cooker liner to make cleanup easy.
2. Add carrots, onions and potatoes.
3. Pour half a jar of salsa on top. (I like to use a green tomatillo salsa)
4. Set on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.
5. Remove from slow cooker, shred meat and serve.

Oven Roasting Method

Greek Freak Mediterranean Spice

If you have a roasting rack (or a metal cookie rack, anything to elevate the meat and provide circulation), place the pork on the rack with a tray underneath to catch juices. For additional flavor there are many rub recipes that you can try. I typically just sprinkle with a little pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika and give it a rub to distribute the spices.

Or for a fail-proof easy seasoning use this Greek Freak Seasoning. Greek Freak is an all-purpose Mediterranean spice blend is packed with garlic, onion, herbs and a touch of chile flake.  It works with all types of protein and vegetables like beef, chicken, fish, pork, game, seafood and veggies. Sprinkle Greek Freak on literally anything and everything. Add to sauces, marinades, soups or stews!

Place the roast in a preheated to 400 degrees; this high temperature will give your meat a nicely browned exterior. After ten minutes turn the heat down to 300 (or lower if you have time). Every half hour, turn the meat on the rack and baste the meat with the juices. Turning it will keep the juices distributed inside.

When your meat is finished (as decided by a thermometer), bring it out of the oven to rest for 20 minutes. Turn it every 5-10 minutes.
